Permanent birth control options

Essure
We are happy to offer Essure, a noninvasive procedure that involves no incisions and is considered the state of the art in permanent birth control. We have performed over 2,000 Essure procedures since 2007 without a single failure. In fact, Essure is now considered more effective than traditional tube tying.

The procedure, which is not reversible, involves inserting spring-like coils, called micro-inserts, through your cervix and into the fallopian tubes. The micro-inserts work with your body to generate a tissue barrier that completely blocks the tubes, resulting in permanent birth control.

With Essure, you don’t have to deal with the discomfort and recovery time of surgery or the side effects of hormones. The procedure is done in our office in under an hour, and you’ll be able to enjoy normal activities the next day.

Average Recovery: Recovery is immediate, but you will need to use another form of birth control for three months until the tissue barrier is fully formed. We’ll then do a test to validate that you are completely protected from an unplanned pregnancy.

Laparoscopic Tubal Ligation
For those who prefer this option, we perform a minimally invasive surgery to tie the fallopian tubes closed. The surgery is performed in the hospital or outpatient clinic and requires anesthesia and a very small incision in your abdomen. Often this procedure is done within days of a delivery, when a woman is certain she is finished having children.

Average Recovery: You will need to rest for approximately 4-7 days after surgery and may experience some pain in your abdomen, slight vaginal bleeding and discomfort from gas. After your short recovery you will not need to use an alternate form of birth control and can resume activities.
